FAQ

Q: I am a foreign spouse and have just arrived in Taiwan. Do I need to pay tuition for the courses?

A: Completely free, with some counties and cities even offering transportation subsidies or childcare services, allowing you to participate in the courses without any worries.

Q: My Chinese isn't very good, will I be able to understand the lessons?

A: The course design takes language barriers into account and includes translation assistance (Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thai, Filipino, English). The Immigration Agency also offers online audio-visual courses in Vietnamese, Indonesian, and other languages for prior self-study.

Q: My husband/wife won't let me go out. Can I take classes online?

A: Yes, the Immigration Agency offers online courses through the "New Immigrant Empowerment and Development Information Network," accessible via mobile phone or computer. If you have personal safety concerns, you can also call the 113 domestic violence hotline or 1955.

Q: What's the point of attending the class?

A: The certificate of completion can be a plus in some applications (such as long-term residence or naturalization), and more importantly, it can help you understand Taiwan's laws and resources and know where your rights lie.

Q: Can migrant workers participate?

A: Some courses are also open to migrant workers, but they are primarily for "new immigrants" (foreign nationals or those residing with relatives from mainland China). Migrant workers can call 1955 or visit the county or city migrant worker service center to inquire about specific courses.
