What is the Interpreter Service?

To protect the rights of new immigrants, the Immigration Agency trains professional interpreters and maintains a talent pool. When new immigrants encounter difficulties due to language barriers in medical treatment, legal proceedings, administrative procedures, or communication with parents and teachers at school, they can request interpretation services from the relevant authorities.

Service Languages

Currently, services are provided in the following 7 languages:

  • Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt)

  • Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia)

  • Thai (ภาษาไทย)

  • Filipino (Tagalog)

  • Khmer (Khmer)

  • Burmese (Burmese)

  • English (English)

Applicable Scenarios

  • Medical Treatment: Emergency room visits, medical examinations, parental health education.

  • Legal Assistance: Police reports, court appearances, legal consultations.

  • Administrative Procedures: Household registration, vehicle registration, social welfare applications. - School Education: Parent-teacher meetings, college application counseling.

How to Apply?

  1. Apply to the Receiving Agency: For example, when seeking medical treatment at a hospital, directly submit your "interpretation request" to the hospital counter or social work department.

  2. Agency Appointment: The agency schedules an appointment with the Immigration Agency or a designated window for an interpreter.

  3. Interpreter Arrives: The interpreter arrives at the appointed time to provide interpretation assistance.

Important Notes

  • Interpretation services are primarily for "public affairs" and do not include private commercial or purely private document translation.

  • In emergencies (such as emergency room visits), you can try calling the 1990 hotline to inquire about immediate online interpreting services.

FAQ

Q: Is there a charge for applying for interpreting services?

A: Completely free. The interpreter's service fee is subsidized by a government project, and applicants or new immigrants do not need to pay.

Q: Can you help me translate personal letters or work-related documents?

A: Translation services are mainly for "public affairs" (such as medical treatment, legal affairs, and government windows), while private commercial or purely private document translation is not covered by the subsidy.

Q: Can I find someone immediately if I need them urgently?

A: It is generally recommended to book 3-7 business days in advance to allow for staffing arrangements. In case of emergency, you can call 1990 to inquire about online interpreting.
