What is the Childcare Allowance?
The Childcare Allowance is a cash subsidy provided by the Social and Family Department of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, specifically designed for families who do not use government-run public childcare resources. Families with children under 5 years old who do not use public or quasi-public childcare services can receive HK$5,000 per month.
Who can apply?
Families meeting all of the following criteria are eligible to apply:
Child's age: 0 to under 5 years old
Not sent to public childcare centers or community public childcare resources
Not attending public or quasi-public kindergartens
Not receiving other subsidies of the same type
How is the amount calculated?
Each eligible child receives a monthly subsidy of HK$5,000, directly deposited into the applicant's account.
Example Calculation:
Two children under 5 years old, neither using childcare resources → Monthly subsidy of NT$10,000
One 3-year-old child attending a private kindergarten → Monthly subsidy of NT$5,000
Application Process
Prepare documents: Household registration certificate, bankbook cover, ID card
Submit the application to the township (town, city, district) office where your household registration is located.
After review by the office, the subsidy will begin to be disbursed the following month.
Annual eligibility confirmation is required to confirm continued eligibility.
Important Notes
If you begin using public or quasi-public services during the subsidy period, you must proactively declare and discontinue their use.
For those using childcare services outside their registered county/city, applications will still be processed through the office in your household registration location.
From 2026 onwards, the subsidy amount will remain at NT$5,000 per month (please refer to official announcements for the most up-to-date information).
