What is the Scholarship for Children of New Immigrants?

The National Immigration Agency, Ministry of the Interior, has established this scholarship program to encourage new immigrants and their children to pursue their studies in Taiwan. The program is divided into two main categories: "Excellence Scholarship" and "Hardship Scholarship," covering junior high school, senior high school, vocational high school, and college students.

Scholarship Amount

  • College/University: NT$8,000

  • Senior High/Vocational High School: NT$5,000

  • Junior High School: NT$3,000

Eligibility

  1. Identity Requirement: The new immigrant or their child.

  2. Academic Requirement: The student's overall average grade in the previous semester must be 75% or higher.

  3. Additional Requirements for the Hardship Scholarship: Applicants must be from low-income households, lower-middle-income households, or families experiencing sudden hardship, as certified by the school.

Application Process

  1. Online Application: During the application period, complete the online application form at the "New Immigrant Empowerment and Development Information Network".

  2. Required Documents:

  • Proof of New Immigrant Status (Residence Permit or Household Registration Transcript)

  • Proof of Parentage

  • Transcript from the previous semester

  • Proof of Enrollment

  1. Mailing Documents: In some cases, a paper application form must be mailed to a designated address.

Important Notes

  • Each person can only apply for one category per semester.

  • Please ensure that the bank account information provided is correct to avoid affecting fund allocation.

  • Late applications will not be accepted. Please note the announcement dates in February and September each year.

Q: Can I apply for scholarships from other organizations at the same time?

A: Most allowances can be received from multiple agencies, but if they are government subsidies of the same nature (such as scholarships for underprivileged students from other ministries), they are usually required to be selected based on merit.

Q: What documents are required for the application?

A: You will need to prepare proof of your new resident status (residence permit or household registration transcript), proof of parent-child relationship, transcript of the previous semester, and proof of enrollment.

Q: Can children who haven't received their residence permits apply?

A: The applicant must be a child of a new immigrant (foreign spouse) and have a registered residence or residence permit in Taiwan.
